The New Era - Happy Holidays

Hei, haluttiin vaan tällä kuvalla toivottaa kaikille mukavat joulun ajat. Mekin vietämme pienen tauon tässä vuoden vaihteessa, ollaan perheiden ja kavereiden kanssa etc. ja annetaan itsellemme pieni hengähdys valokuvauksesta. Nestillä riittää töitä myös hänen uuden bändinsä kanssa. Tänään ja tämän kuvan myötä loppuu myös facebookissa käynnissä ollut kilpailu, jossa palkintona siis "The New Era" -kirjoja ja kuvaprinttejä, mutta teillä on vielä tämä päivä aikaa osallistua :) Pyrimme julkaisemaan voittajat tammikuun aikana. Pitäkää huolta toisistanne, nähdään ensi vuonna :)

Hi, we just wanted to wish you all happy holidays with this picture.. nothing special about it really. We're going to take a little holiday break to be with our families and friends. Nesti is also going to do lots of things with his new band. Today is also the day when our competition in facebook ends. The New Era - Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore

Tasa-arvoisuus, tuntemattomat, rakastuminen ensisilmäyksellä olivat teemoja, joiden pohjalta kävimme suunnittelemaan tätä kuvaa. Haluttiin tähän mysteerinen, snadisti rikkaan näköinen mies antamaan jotain kadulla lojuvalle köyhälle tytölle ja tytön reaktiot ois sitten luokkaa "Omg, kuka sä oot, mitä sä teet?". Lopulta päädyimme sormukseen, joten jotkut teistä saattavat luulla tätä kosintakuvaksi, vaikkemme sitä niin alunperin tarkoittanutkaan. Haluttaisiin myös pyytää Herra Ilkka Remestä lähettämään meille vähän viikkorahaa mainostamisesta. Jos joku lukijamme tuntee Ilkan, niin kertokaa terkkuja Eiralta ja Nestiltä!

Equality, strangers, love at first sight were the themes when we started planning this picture. We wanted to have this mysterious, rich-looking guy to give something to this poor girl laying on the street corner and the girl to be like "Omg, who are you, what you're doing?". In the end we decided to go with the ring so some of you might think this as a proposal but that's not what we planned to do. And we would also like to ask for mr. Ilkka Remes (famous finnish author) to give us some pocket money for promoting him.

Tulipa oltua jälleen Nightwishin keikalla ja tällä kertaa jopa ihan puhtaasti asiakkaana. Otinpa kuitenkin kameran mukaan ja räpsin yleisöstä paikaltani vähän kuviakin keikan lomassa.. laitan tässä ensimmäisiä kuvia esille ja lisään sitten myöhemmin uusia, kunhan pääsen kunnon koneen ääreen :)

I was in Nightwish concert last night and this time fully as a customer. Still I took my camera with me (stupid photographer!) and took some shots from the croud. Here are the first ones but I'll most likely add more photos when I can get myself into a better computer :)

Btw, the movie was freaking awesome I still can't believe what I saw - you should all go to check it out if you haven't already.. and even if you have!

The New Era - Would You Fall With Me?

Ollaan pahoillamme, että tällä hetkellä meidän mahdollisuudet kuvata on vähän kehnot, kun Nesti suorittaa valtion palvelusta ja on vielä tämän kuun viikot täysin kiinni siinä.

Mutta asiaan.. tänä vuonna on ollu taas niin kaunis syksy, että haluttiin hyödyntää sitäkin edes yhdessä kuvassa. Otettiin kohteeksi värikkäät lehdet, joita heiteltiin Eiran ympärille. Tää on myös ensimmäinen oikeesti lavastettu kuva, joka ollaan otettu.. kuvaustilanteesta on behind the scenes -kuva :)

It's quite beautiful time here in Finland and this time we wanted to use all those beautiful colors our nature is giving us at the moment. So we took a huge pile of fallen leaves and put them around Eira and here is the result.. it's also our first picture which was really set up as you can see..

The New Era - Fallen

Haluamme esitellä teille uuden elementin kuviimme, jota on tarkotus tuoda esille jatkossakin. Tähän mennessä olemme ottaneet kauniita (ja vähän karmiviakin) kuvia Eirasta, mutta tästä lähtien aiomme julkaista myös kuvia, joissa on toinenkin henkilö. Ja tämä henkilö on valokuvaajamme, Nesti. Tämä vaikeuttaa monia asioita. Meidän on käytettävä kasukosäätimiä, itselaukaisimia ja kameraa aina jalustalla, joka meinaa sitä, että Nesti ei voi nähdä kuvaa tai antaa Eiralle neuvoja ennen kuvan ottamista. Sen lisäksi näissä kuvissa on nyt yhden sijasta kaksi henkilöä, joiden ilmeet ja eleet määrittävät koko kuvan. Näiden kuvien ottaminen vaatii siis vähintään tuplatyön verrattuna niihin, joissa Eira on yksin. Koimme, että meidän tyylit ja ulkonäöt sopivat niin hyvin yhteen, ettemme halunneet käyttää ketään ulkopuolista mallia. Mutta älkää huoliko - aiomme jatkossakin julkaista kuvia, joissa Eira on yksin. Nesti on vain mauste, jota käytämme harkitusti.

We want to introduce a new element to our pictures which we'll continue to do later also. So far we have done a very beautiful (and creepy as well :D) pictures of Eira but from this day we'll also publish pictures where there is another person in the picture. And that person is our photographer, Nesti. Of course this will make many things a lot harder. We have to use remote controls, self timers and camera on tripods always. That means that Nesti can't really see the picture or give any advice to Eira before the picture has been shot.. and also there will be now two persons whose facial expressions, appearances and gestures will determine the whole look of the picture.. instead of one. So, we have to do at least double the work for these pictures where Nesti is also in the picture. But we were so sure that our styles and appearences would look so good together that we wanted to do this instead of using any outside model. But don't be worried, we will still continue to do those pictures with only Eira in it.. Nesti's only going to be a spice what we'll use sometimes.

The New Era - Long Hours of Loneliness

Tällä kertaa halusimme kuvata jotain vähän surullisempaa ja unohtaa zombiet vähäksi aikaa. Menimme pellolle, jossa oli kivaa pitkää heinää ja laitoimme vaihteeksi Eiran jäätymään mutaan. Itseasiassa hänen tatuointinsa antoivat meille idean, koska halusivat tulla valokuvatuiksi. Keksimme sitten tämän idean kaipauksesta johonkin.

This time we wanted to do something a bit more melancholic and sad. We went to the fields with long hay and put Eira to freeze in the mud (again :D). Actually idea came from her tattoos which wanted to be photographed and we came up with this idea of longing for something/somewhere.

The New Era - Chapter 5

When we were looking our last picture (http://nestography.blogspot.fi/2012/09/the-new-era-its-not-blind-who-cannot-see.html) we came up with this zombie idea. We also watched the whole "The Walking Dead" season 2 within a 48 hours so our minds were totally zombified. Just like in the last picture we took a nice piece of white clothing and destroyed it to make it fit our nice little zombie girl :') We waited for the night to have a nice apocalyptic atmosphere with a nice mist coming to our bridge and Eira had to freeze in a  temperature of just few degrees.

Edellisen kuvan jälkeen (http://nestography.blogspot.fi/2012/09/the-new-era-its-not-blind-who-cannot-see.html) saimme idean zombie -kuvasta, eikä tätä päähänpinttymää auttanut yhtään, että katseltiin parissa päivässä koko "The Walking Dead":in toisen tuotantokauden ja mielemme olivat totaalisesti zombifoitu. Niinkuin viimeksikin, otimme kivan valkoisen vaatteen ja tuhosimme sen, jotta se sopisi meidän zombie-tytölle. Odotimme yötä saadamme kuvaan edes vähän maailmanlopun tunnelmaa, jota sillalle tullut sumu kivasti lisäsi. Niinkuin yleensä meidän kuvissa, Eira joutui jälleen jäätymään todella kylmissä olosuhteissa.

The New Era - It's Not the Blind Who Cannot See

Tällä kertaa halusimme tehdä jotain hieman aiemmista kuvista poikkeavaa. Niinkuin olemme sanoneet, niin emme halua lukita tätä projektia mihinkään tiettyyn tyyliin tai tunteeseen tai ylipäätänsä mihinkään - haluamme tehdä mitä vain, mikä meidän mielestä on sen arvoista. Emme halua kertoa kuvasta enempää, jotta jokaisen mielikuvitus voisi kehitellä oman tarinansa tästäkin. Laitettiin myös paljon ylimääräsitä matskua kuvan tekovaiheista, jossa mm. Nesti tuhoaa hienon valkoisen mekon.

This time we wanted to do something a bit different to what we've done before. As stated earlier we do not want to keep ourselves locked into certain style or feeling or whatever but to do anything we feel like worth doing. We don't want to speak about the picture more than this, so everyone can create their own stories. We included many behind the scenes pictures to show Nesti tearing up, burning and really smutching the dress etc.

Inspiroiduttiin Punahilkka -sadusta, mutta halusimme muuttaa rakasta hahmoa vähän omanlaiseksemme. Lisättiin vähän maustetta ja Lumikki -vivahdetta, mentiin mettään ja lopputulos on nyt tuossa. Toivottavasti tyksitte:

So today we were inspired by the Little Red Riding Hood but wanted to give this idea a small kick in the butt. We added some Snowhite and spice into it and headed to the forest. Here you go, hope you enjoy:

The New Era - In the Shadow of the Horns

The New Era

Viimeiset nelisen vuotta mulla on pyörinyt päässä idea valokuvausprojektista, jossa voisin käyttää mielikuvitustani ja toteuttaa jopa niitä kaikista villeimpiä ideoitani. Tarkoituksenani on ollut työskennellä läheisesti jonkun toisen ihmisen kanssa - jonkun kuka toimisi mallina ja auttaisi minua herättämään luonnokseni henkiin. Halusin molempien omistautuvan tälle projektille, jottei se jäisi vain kananlennoksi. Odotan parhaimpien tuloksien olevan nähtävissä vasta vuosien päästä.

On ollut vaikea löytää sopivaa mallia tähän projektiin. Kaikki tuntuivat joko liian kiireisiltä, liian itserakkailta, liian varautuneilta tai eivät muuten vain sopineet valokuvaustyyliini. Mutta sitten löysin Eiran, joka on lahjakas, kaunis, mukautuva ja yhtä sekaisin, kuin minäkin, joten hulluimpienkin ideoidemme toteuttaminen ei tule olemaan ongelma. Positiivisena pidin myös hänen kykyä tehdä omat meikkinsä ja suunnitella tyyliään kuvauksia varten.

Tämä projekti ei tule olemaan kahlittuna mihinkään tiettyyn tyyliin tai tunteeseen. Tällä hetkellä työskentelemme 5-10:n eri kuvan parissa. Ne ovat kieroutuneita, kauniita, surullisia, melankolisia, leikkisiä, yms.. Kuvien joukossa on todella paljon erilaisia tunnetiloja ja haluamme jokaisen niistä kertovan tarinan. Toivon kuviemme erottuvan joukosta persoonallisella kuvaustyylilläni, sekä sillä tosiasialla, että malli pysyy joka kuvassa samana.

Toivotamme teidät kaikki tervetulleeksi uudelle aikakaudelle. Tässä on ensimmäinen näyte työstämme.

For the last about 4 years I've had this idea about photography project where I could use my imagination and really make even the wildest ideas to come true. My idea has been to work with someone really closely, someone who would work as a model and help me to kick some life into my sketches. I wanted both of us to dedicate ourselves into this project so it wouldn't just be a short time wonder. I expect the best results to come years from now.

I've had hard time to find a suitable model for this project. Everyone seemed to be too busy, too egoistic, too reserved or just not something I'd have found suitable for my style of photography. But then I found Eira, who is talented, beautiful, versatile and just as crazy as I am so bringing our wildest ideas to life wouldn't be a problem. Her ability to do her own make-up and ideas for styling herself for the shoot were also positive things.

This project will not be chained to one certain style or a feeling. At the moment we are working with 5-10 really different kinds of pictures. These are twisted, beautiful, sad, melancholic, playful, etc.. there are so many different moods on those photos and we want every one of them to tell a story. I hope that my personal style of photography and the fact that the model is the same in every picture will make our photos to stand out from the crowd.
